Description
The Seiko 5 GMT SSK001 is what many people have been waiting for, for a very long time: a great, well-made, versatile sports watch with a mechanical (automatic) GMT movement. That is of course not impossible to find, however the big difference with the SSK001 is that it’s also reasonably priced.
It’s a true all-rounder with 100m water resistance, unidirectional bezel and a comfortable 42.5mm case (excluding crown), stylish 5-row bracelet and a modest 46mm lug to lug distance. The beautiful dial is protected by Hardlex mineral glass.
Under the hood is the mechanical (automatic) Seiko in-house Cal. 4R34 movement, with a day indicator at 3 o’clock (enlarged with a date loupe) but most importantly, also featuring a red GMT hand. The movement is also visible through the display caseback window.
The SSK001 bears some of the classic GMT design queues but you will never mistake it for anything other than a future classic Seiko!
